Marcelo Peralta Marinkovic (b.1959)

Marcelo is a trained graphic designer, and has, among other things, management experience from El Universo, one of Ecuador's leading daily newspapers. During the years Marcelo lived and worked in Ecuador, his interest in the use of colors and symbols in the culture of three extinct Ecuadorian indigenous people aroused; Manta, Manabi and Guayaquil.
His art is inspired by people with close contact with nature from all over the world, including South America, Africa and Australia. Their symbols clearly and simply express the relationship between life and death, good and evil, freedom, power, sorrow and the relationship between man and the spiritual dimension. The use of symbols can be understood detached from time and place. Therefore, the images/symbols also have a strong effect on today's people. In his pictorial language, Marcelo mixes the world's indigenous peoples' cultures with modern expressions. Themes such as nature, materialism, the exercise of power and the relationship between people, are central to the images. And recurring symbols are eyes, birds, sun, moon and hands. With his pictures, Marcelo wants to challenge and touch the individual's commitment to his own and others' lives. Many of his pictures are stories about encounters with vulnerable people in vulnerable situations.
